BTW I got some hopeful news, I think the DISTS metric might finally be a good judge for Anime images. I'm calibrating it to -quality 80-90 4:4:4 JPG right now. If this works I'll finally be able to crank out a diminishing returns image codec thread on 4chan/reddit this weekend maybe.
If not I guess It's only worth testing photographic images since CVVDP seemed to have solved that at least.

If you add a Japanese speaking section to the site in the future I think tolerating Japanese-only users might be worth it though. Hell maybe that might help anons improve their Japanese, I hear direct exposure to native Japanese is the fastest way to learn Japanese...

That's awesome, that image comparison you posted was a big eye opener, the difference in quality was huge
