An open source CUDA AVIF encoder has recently been released. It outperforms NVENC AV1 in both speed and compression efficiency. Similar compression efficiency as AOM speed 6 (the default in libavif).
No hardware encoding is used, just the GPU CUDA compute cores btw. Only Nvidia RTX 2000 series or later seems to be supported. ZLUDA might work for AMD GPUs.
